Are you an experienced dietitian looking for development opportunities in Forensics Mental Health? We are currently recruiting for a Band 7 Specialist Mental Health Dietitian in Secure Services to work autonomously based in the Physical Health Team at Fromeside and Wickham, clinically supervised by the Head of Nutrition & Dietetics.

Main duties of the job

  • To be the clinical expert in your specialist field within this setting. To be responsible for the development and provision & evaluation of a comprehensive and effective, evidence based dietetic service in Medium and Low-Secure Inpatient Services.
  • To have a working knowledge of national & best practice guidelines.
  • To organise, implement and evaluate group education sessions for different client groups e.g. clients, healthcare professionals
  • To actively participate in general health promotion, in line with government policies and local priorities, liaising closely with the public health departments
  • To actively participate in health promotion activities as required for the specialist area and oversee the provision a health promotion/


  • To communicate highly complex medical and nutritional information to patients, carers and healthcare professionals in a clear and easy to understand manner.
  • To engage effectively with patients to help them understand, accept and overcome difficult diagnoses and complex dietary changes.
  • To effectively communicate complex nutritional information to healthcare professionals.
  • To effectively liaise with multidisciplinary teams regarding client care and to actively participate in multi-agency work and liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies as appropriate.
  • To work collaboratively with ward teams to maintain existing assessment standards and systems, meeting patients’ needs with collaboration with Hotel Services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide highly specialist mental health dietetics assessment, diagnosis and treatment services to adults across inpatient and community settings
  • To work collaboratively with the MDT, Clinical Leads and Dietetic Team and liaising with Acute Trusts where necessary
  • To work as a member of Multidisciplinary Teams across secure services to provide coordinated care to service users with a range of longer-term conditions.
  • To provide expertise within the wider Multidisciplinary Team in the area Mental Health Dietetics
  • To provide training opportunities for the Multidisciplinary Team in all aspects of nutrition and dietetics
  • To pursue and acquire knowledge and expertise for highly specialist clinical practice with the above client groups.
  • To work closely with the Head of Nutrition and Dietetics, especially with regards to clinical governance and service provision.
