The Trust is seeking a locum Consultant Psychiatrist to join the medium secure forensic service at Fromeside medium secure unit in Bristol. You will be working on Kennet rehabilitation ward. The job is currently 6 sessions a week, with the potential to increase this due to a number of service developments, and is for nine months initially. You will be allocated a case load of 11 inpatients and will be supported by a multidisciplinary team, and a Specialty Doctor for four sessions.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to explore or consolidate a career in forensic psychiatry in a service that has a number of exciting new developments on the horizon. This includes the creation of a Community Forensic Team.

The service is leading the way with its ethos of reducing restrictive practice. We have been able to share nationally our success in significantly reducing incidents of aggression and the need for restraint by introducing Activity Co-ordinators across all wards. The service has a dedicated Service User Involvement Co-ordinator and Co-production between staff, service users and carers is actively promoted. The service is also driving parity between mental and physical health and has an active Wellbeing Committee of staff, service users and carers supporting interventions to help with weight management, body image and sustained healthy eating.

You will join a complement of nine other Consultant Psychiatrists and a Consultant Nurse who work across Fromeside medium secure and Wickham low secure units on the Blackberry Hill Hospital site. Both services are funded by NHS England.

Fromeside Medium Secure Service provides inpatient services to 81 inpatients at Fromeside, 69 male and 12 female beds.  For male inpatients there are two acute wards, two rehabilitation wards, one ward for males with complex needs and one ward for males with learning disability and autistic spectrum disorders. There is one female ward.

Fromeside and Wickham work as part of a regional New Care Model providing secure services for men and women from the South West of England. We work in partnership with both NHS and independent providers in order to allow people to access care as close to home as possible and in the least restrictive way. We have one regional assessment and admission process.

Bristol is a vibrant city with an international reputation as a centre of culture and stunning architecture. It has a wide selection of music and multimedia venues and more independent shops than any other major city. It is within easy reach of Devon and South Wales and boasts over 400 gardens and parks and a historic harbourside. Its diversity, green spaces and stunning views make it a great place to live and work.
