We employ over 4,000 dedicated members of staff who deliver services from more than 90 locations, working in approximately 150 teams across a geographical region of 2,200 miles, for a population of approximately 1.8million people.

We are passionate about promoting good mental health and wellbeing. We strive to use the expertise and resources within our organisation, and through our partnerships, to deliver high quality services that are safe and focused on people's recovery. Our staff are pivotal in everything we do and we are committed to involving them fully in the development of the Trust and our services.

Secondment Opportunity - Ward Manager, Hazel Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Based at Callington Road Hospital in Bristol, Hazel Unit is a purpose-built 12 bedded Male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) providing care for adult males during the most acute phase of their mental health journey. We have achieved AIMS accreditation and are members of NAPICU.

Hazel PICU is a Trust-wide facility but predominantly serves the Bristol area, providing care for patients from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures, and who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, sometimes including forensic sections.

This is an opportunity to manage and lead a team providing care to detained patients who require acute and urgent mental health care in a contained and restricted environment, with an aim to step the patient down to a less restrictive environment as soon as possible.

Alongside this, also to support the team to deliver compassionate, safe and therapeutic interventions which reduce the use of restrictive practice where possible; and ensure the team is supported to deliver a compassionate service and meet all required performance indicators, and within the budgetary envelope.

Bristol Inpatients is a strong team and ward managers have peer supervision and you will be offered support from the Bristol Inpatient Matron Team and Ward Managers, The Bristol Inpatient Service Manager, our HR colleague and accountant.

Interested parties should have suitable and relevant experience at Band 6 level and be able to evidence relevant continued professional development.
