Come and work with us at the New Horizons Mother & Baby Unit. The MBU is situated within the site of Southmead Hospital in Bristol.  The service provides four in-patient beds. We also offer advice and liaise closely with other professionals outside of Bristol, including all Community Perinatal services within BNSSG as appropriate.

 

Women may be admitted in the later stages of pregnancy (32 weeks) and with babies up to 12 months old.

 

The service cares for women who are acutely mentally ill, who have a history of severe mental illness in the antenatal and postnatal period for a preventative admission. The service provides a nurturing therapeutic environment for Mother to recover from their illness, Family and friends are positively encouraged to take part in the care whilst admitted and during the transition home.

 

We are looking for HCSW’s who have received an NVQ level 3 in care or can demonstrate substantial equivalent experience gained in a role supporting people with significant health or social care needs. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of how mental health issues can affect people and be flexible and adaptable to change. Experience of working as part of a team is also important as well as your ability to lead others in delivering specific interventions

As a HCSW in a 24 hour care service, working a shift pattern is mandatory as is working some nights, weekends and bank holidays. This role also involves managing aggressive/challenging behaviours so candidates must be physical fit to complete our Prevention and management of violence and aggression training that will be provided.
