We have an opportunity for a support worker to join our occupational therapy team, working with mental health service users in a secure in-patient setting.

Wickham unit is a 29-bedded low secure service, providing recovery-focussed care. The occupational therapy team is a well-established, integral and valued part of the multi-disciplinary clinical team.

You will have a broad range of ‘life skills’, and should be able to engage, motivate, and support service users with mental health needs in a wide range of activities. In this post, you will work closely with qualified occupational therapists, but you will also have to be able to use your initiative and work independently with people with mental health problems to support them in achieving their potential to function as independently as possible in all aspects of their life. The work involves assisting service-users within the building as well as supporting them to access the community.

On joining the team, you will receive a comprehensive, structured induction package, and you will have the chance to work with a supportive team in a unique and innovative environment. You will receive regular supervision and support in this post.

Successful candidates will be required to complete (or demonstrate previous completion of) the AWP Care Certificate. All 15 standards need to have been passed in order to advance beyond the probationary period. For details see document “Code of Conduct for Unregistered Practitioners (2017).
