Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. We also provide specialist services extending throughout the south west.

Vinney Green unit accommodates up to 24 young people of both sexes, aged between 10 and 17 years who are either remanded or sentenced by the criminal courts or detained under section 25 of the Children Act 1989 (Welfare Placements). Swanwick Lodge is a purpose-built local authority secure children's home situated in Southampton, it provides support and care for up to sixteen young people aged between 10 and 17 years old, who are detained under section 25 of the Children Act 1989 (Welfare Placements). AWP and Hanham Health work in partnership to provide both mental health and primary care services to Vinney Green.

An opportunity has arisen for a Young Persons Substance Misuse Practitioner or Youth Worker preferably working with young people in a specialist substance misuse service or Youth Offending Team (YOT) to work with young people who are involved with the Youth Justice system?

The team are NHS England funded to provide both mental health and physical health interventions within Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home. The team form part of a National funded implementation of the secure stairs focuses on the development and roll out of an integrated care framework that addresses the needs of children and young people in Secure Children’s Homes.

Vinney Green Secure Unit is situated in South Gloucestershire and is run and managed by the local authority, located to the North East of the city of Bristol with excellent transport links situated close to Bristol Ring road and M4 Motorway. Swanwick Lodge is run by Hampshire County Council, also boasts good transport links and is well connected by both rail and M27 Motorway.

 A comprehensive role specific induction programme will be put in place so that the successful candidate has all the essential knowledge to carry out their role safely and effectively. An understanding of Youth Criminal Justice system is useful but not essential.
