Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) is a significant provider of high quality mental health services across a core catchment area covering Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. The Trust also provides specialist services for a wider catchment extending throughout the south west.
Our aim is to enable and empower people to reach their potential and to live fulfilling lives through providing recovery and reablement focused services that yield positive outcomes for our service users and their carers.
Specifically, The Trust provides services for people with mental health needs, with needs relating to drug or alcohol dependency and mental health services for people with learning disabilities. We also provide secure mental health services and work with the criminal justice system.
Increasingly AWP provides treatment and care in people's own homes and other community settings, reflecting the preferences of our service users. Our community services are supported by high quality inpatient services that provide short term assessment, treatment and care.
Applications are invited for the post of Specialty doctor. This post provided support to the Consultant Psychiatrist for inpatient Services based on Poppy Ward; a twenty bedded mixed sex unit at Green Lane Hospital, which through the introduction of innovative practices is continually improving quality on the ward. The post holder will deliver direct interventions to the inpatients, which will involve conducting a thorough history, physical examination, initiating investigations, diagnosis and treatment of mental and physical health needs.
The post also involves supporting the ECT Lead Consultant to deliver ECT in the locality, a service that has been accredited with excellence by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ ECT accreditation service. The post holder will be encouraged to attend the Royal College ECT training days.
This post provides an excellent opportunity for professional development and offers the chance to broaden knowledge and learn new clinical skills in this specialist field. The post holder will receive weekly Consultant supervision. There are no out of hours on call responsibilities with this post.
You will be experienced in the assessment and treatment of adults and be practiced in dealing with crisis situations. The ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team is essential as is the requirement to apply an integrated care programme approach.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
