Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. We also provide specialist services extending throughout the south west.

We employ over 4,000 dedicated members of staff who deliver services from more than 90 locations, working in approximately 150 teams across a geographical region of 2,200 miles, for a population of approximately 1.8million people.

We are passionate about promoting good mental health and wellbeing. We strive to use the expertise and resources within our organisation, and through our partnerships, to deliver high quality services that are safe and focused on people's recovery. Our staff are pivotal in everything we do and we are committed to involving them fully in the development of the Trust and our services.

Poppy Ward is a purpose built 18 bedded acute mental Health in-patient ward with two urgent transfer beds that link in with the place of safety, based in Devizes.

Our highly motivated team is seeking an experienced Registered Mental Health nurse with a demonstrable experience in the assessment and treatment of people with Mental Health issues. This is an active, enjoyable and rewarding Charge Nurse role within a team applying person centred assessment for people experiencing changes in needs due to their illness.

Working alongside colleagues from Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and the newly formed Care Home Liaison services, you will be maintaining and developing further a culture that puts the person’s feelings at the forefront of their care.

The role itself requires you to work alongside charge nurse colleagues to plan, provide, communicate and evaluate the care outlined within each person’s behavioural support plan. Alongside providing direct care you will be overseeing admission, performance compliance and discharge planning in line with the Care Programme Approach.

You will model best practice to other staff and provide support through supervision, training and appraisal. Above all the role requires you to have a genuine desire to promote assessment services of the highest quality for people with a mental illness.

We would welcome applications from individuals with experience in both working with people with mental illness and team supervision. You will be supporting new employees through full induction, training and supervision and also promoting comprehensive preceptorship for newly qualified staff. Experience in family work, mentorship, legislation and research would be advantageous.

Poppy ward is located on the Green Lane Hospital site in Devizes and sits alongside the new regional place of safety, Early interventions team, Intensive support team as well as community mental health teams. Successful candidates would be encouraged to gain experience of these teams and on occasions may be asked to work on the place of safety.
