Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Psychiatrist in Primary Care Liaison Psychiatry and Wiltshire & Swindon Place of Safety, Bluebell Unit. This is a full time post, 10 PAs per week.

Wiltshire is a beautiful county of chalk plains with eight White Horse chalk figures on hillsides, river valleys, ancient monuments and world heritage sites including Avebury and Stonehenge. The post holder will be based at Green Lane Hospital, Devizes which is at the heart of Wiltshire.

The Primary Care Liaison Service is an important part of the 24 hour front services alongside the Intensive Service. The team covers patients from the North, West and East Wiltshire CCG area. The area is a mix of small villages and market towns in Wiltshire. The Team is Ageless and includes Adult and Older Adult service users. It also manages the assessment and treatment of non-complex dementia in the community although the post holder will not be expected to have input into this part of the service as this is provided by the community old age psychiatrists.

AWP have commissioned a Swindon and Wiltshire Place of Safety (PoS). The service provides a flexible 4 space unit for the East of the Trust. The suite will provide the ability to accept those detained under sec 135 & 136 for a mental health assessment.

The service is provided by a dedicated specialist multi-disciplinary mental health team, who are experienced in the management of people with mental health problems who are in crisis. They are based within the Bluebell Unit (health based POS) which is located on the Green Lane Hospital site.

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out MHA assessments within the POS on behalf of Swindon & Wiltshire one day per week (2 PA).

Devizes has a weekly Academic programme with outside speakers. In addition there is a monthly PDP group and Peer Supervision. CPD activities are supported. The applicant would be expected to participate.

Medical students from Bristol University are placed at Green Lane Hospital and therefore teaching opportunities might be available if this would be of interested.
