Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. We also provide specialist services extending throughout the south west.

We employ over 4,000 dedicated members of staff who deliver services from more than 90 locations, working in approximately 150 teams across a geographical region of 2,200 miles, for a population of approximately 1.8million people.

We are passionate about promoting good mental health and wellbeing. We strive to use the expertise and resources within our organisation, and through our partnerships, to deliver high quality services that are safe and focused on people's recovery. Our staff are pivotal in everything we do and we are committed to involving them fully in the development of the Trust and our services.

A rare opportunity to join our Trust as a full time band 6 Occupational Therapist has arisen. This post is based at Ashdown PICU and is a full time post of 37.5 hours a week. Ashdown is a 9 bedded male, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit that cares for individuals with the highest level of mental health needs that currently require intensive, focused support and a safe environment. We are one of 4 specific psychiatric wards on the well-established site of Fountain Way; located centrally in the thriving Cathedral city of Salisbury.

Due to the complexity of our service user group and their enhanced needs we are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and forward thinking occupational therapist that already has significant post registration experience working in acute mental health services.

You will need to be a flexible and versatile practitioner who is committed to delivering an outstanding service, you will be reflective, articulate and an excellent team worker. In a fast moving multidisciplinary setting you will use a wide range of therapeutic interventions to meet service user’s needs and we are particularly keen to attract someone who is confident in delivering occupational therapy assessments and interventions with a focus on recovery and optimum levels of functioning.

You should be confident in using a range of standardised occupational therapy assessments including, but not limited to assessments from the model of human occupation and be enquiring and forward thinking in applying current evidence to practice. The Occupational Therapy service at Fountain Way is currently implementing the VdT Model of Creative Ability and you would be able to take an active role in this. You will need to demonstrate skills in leadership, supervision and service development.

You will be expected to be an active and involved member of the multidisciplinary team with an emphasis of developing integrated and meaningful person centred plans of care and delivering these in PICU environment. You will be supported in delivering occupational therapy interventions by a band 3 OT support worker and have the clinical peer support of another band 6 Occupational Therapist. The post is line managed by the ward manager but with close and supportive links to other site based occupational therapists; we can offer opportunities for continued professional development, regular supervision including clinical and professional provision and the opportunity to contribute to the further development of our services.

The service regularly accepts students for practice placements and we have links with University of the West of England. Training and support is available for the provision of practice placements.
