Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) is a significant provider of high quality mental health services across a core catchment area covering Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. The Trust also provides specialist services for a wider catchment extending throughout the south west.
Our aim is to enable and empower people to reach their potential and to live fulfilling lives through providing recovery and reablement focused services that yield positive outcomes for our service users and their carers.
Specifically, The Trust provides services for people with mental health needs, with needs relating to drug or alcohol dependency and mental health services for people with learning disabilities. We also provide secure mental health services and work with the criminal justice system.
Increasingly AWP provides treatment and care in people's own homes and other community settings, reflecting the preferences of our service users. Our community services are supported by high quality inpatient services that provide short term assessment, treatment and care.
The Victoria Centre is a purpose built unit based on the Great Western Hospital site. The unit consists of two wards, one specialising in the care of the older person with mental health problems and the second ward specialising in the care of the older person with organic illness.
The post advertised will lend itself predominately to the unit services. The post holder will work closely with the band 5 staff already in post along with the ward manager and modern matron. We are seeking a well-motivated enthusiastic nurses to deliver clear leadership to junior staff nurses and health care assistants working on the ward.

Clear pathways of care and close working with our multidisciplinary colleagues. Our purpose is to deliver on a comprehensive assessment so the service user and carer is supported on the person’s journey.
We value our staff by ensuring we carry our appraisals, we give regular supervision to develop their skills, knowledge and practice. The band 5 will be expected to lead by using their own skills and knowledge, promote a positive attitude to mental health nursing and the ability to make changes in practice to enhance the patient’s experience.
